POLE VAULT CHAMPION DROPS IN FOR A VISIT

Gold medallist and world record holder Armand “Mondo” Duplantis enjoys a relaxed morning at OMEGA Showcasing in Tokyo.

With the hard work over and the competition won, the Swedish pole vault star embraced the opportunity to let his friends at OMEGA take the lead, with a guided tour of the brand’s timekeeping technology.

The young athlete is allowing himself time to unwind after his moment of glory, which he described as “a surreal experience”, given that winning a medal has been a driving force since childhood. “I have dreamed of this moment my entire life. As far back as I can remember. I have now accomplished the biggest goal I’ve ever had. It’s an amazing moment”.

The kit required for jumps is low-tech. A pole, hatch-marked uprights, a crossbar and a soft place to land. However, OMEGA precision did feature on the athlete’s wrist.

Mondo Duplantis jumped wearing the Seamaster Aqua Terra “Ultra Light”.

Ergonomically designed and fashioned from a strong yet lightweight alloy called Gamma Titanium, it features a telescopic crown, which can be stowed inside the case when not in use. It is powered by OMEGA’s first movement built from titanium and weighs just 55 grams when worn on a sporty strap.

It’s a great watch, it’s got the looks. It’s elegant, classy and super light. I check times a lot during jumps, so for me it’s perfect. Best of all, I’m in a league of my own out there”.

An OMEGA ambassador since 2020, gold medallist Mondo Duplantis holds the world record for pole vault at 6.18 m.
